Hello !

Well I rented an atelier. I used the first time just to do a work, in which I could get in touch with materials again. What a pleasure to feel the papers and to mess around in bigger size, far off any computer. Well the subject, good old Childhood-Dirty Harry Callahan suited fine in this playing.. It has already found its way to a new happy owner.
I will give it more time for PA Projects now. With love from IB

Hi,

Here's an update from the things I'm doing right now!

I discovered screen printing and I'm really into it!

These are pictures of some prints I've made in

the printmaking atelier in Antwerp.

I'll show them on the Women at work expo in June,

combined with more designs of 45 single album covers.

Greetings!

This is another row of non-objective drawings I made alongside some design-commissions. Although they feel a bit overdone to me, I like the Deathstar-/aerial view-vibe about it. And it is harder than I thought to draw a few circles without making them look like a face.

Hey there,

here’s another piece I made for fun after »The Bloody Chamber« by Angela Carter. Well, occasionally it wasn’t fun at all, I struggled with the initial drawing. I am really excited about this book, it has it all: sex, pulp villains, great texture and a lot of cross-references and symbols. In fact, there is more detail in each story than I actually understand - an invitation to learn more about the signs and symbols around us, since this is what can enhance our conscious everyday live...

Hello

I would like to introduce my new project - a project with a more experimental approach. Since some time I keep a dream diary. Every morning, even before I open my eyes, I write and sketch down what I've just had dreamed. Later, during the day, I refine the sketches with brush and drawing pen. All that must be done very fast, in order to reproduce the dream authentically.

Achtung!

I´m somehow obsessed with drawing sporty, indie

tattooed girls recently, and this is pretty much the culmination

of it. I also really love the "image within image" element

of giving my characters tattoos. I´m not really a tattoo

guy myself but I love the whole concept of it - 

illustrating the body, symbolizing things on the

most intimate thing you have.

Without giving away too much, I´m playing with

the idea of turning this into a book project for

my upcoming diploma - it´s also going to have

a sports theme, but again, details are classified

right now ;) 

Well, my diploma doesn´t have to be

finished till summer 2011, but that should give me

enough time to really think this through!

The words and images on cards are timeless, ironical thoughts and slogans on DUDEN/CARTOON - YELLOW. May be you call it "Postmodern" a la

TOCOTRONIC but in any case it is a small by-product that comprises eleven cards at the moment.

Dear all,

in the last two weeks I had to be very busy with doing graphic-design, so there was little time for the fine arts. Nevertheless I had my sketchpad with me and drew some intuitive shapes during the usual wait loops. In the end they had a certain architectural look and turned out to make a nice row. And - I like the 80s-»Heavy Metal«-feel about it.

The Bloody Chamber

Hello!

I just read a collection of tales by Angela Carter, »The Bloody Chamber«, and had some time on my hands to make an image that suits the tone of the title-story. The book is the author’s take on several well-known folk tales, only she has a very »adult« approach. Does anyone remember the movie »The Company Of Wolves« from the mid-80s? This is based on one of the tales and (still) quite a haunting movie...

The Frans Masereel Centre

For some weeks I have the occasion to stay in the Belgian Frans Masereel Centrum near Antwerp.

They provide good facilities for silkscreen, letterpress, lithography and etching where I'm working. I didn't know anything about etching when I came here, and the first week I just struggled to learn the basics of aquaforte and aquatint. Etching really is a science and a world in itself. Now I already feel more comfortable, thanks to the instructors and my neighbour in the atelier, and I'm working on my first two images.

It's surprisingly international artists in residence here, there's people from New Zealand, Paris, London, Romania and Belgium at the moment. Each artist has his own bungalow, like on the photo above, and there's 3 extra beds for guests. Maybe next year, this could be interesting for some of us to come together?

New etching

It's been a while ago I've posted something on our blog.

I'm currently working on my etchings. This is my latest one.

I'm also experimenting with the medium of silkscreen at the moment.

Ethnographic drawings #6

These three guys from Oceania are part of my newest sketchwork. After some drawing-sessions at the Ethnological Museum Berlin-Dahlem, it become more and more difficult for me to discover new suitable figures of these special kind there. Now I think about to visit the Ethnological Museum of Hamburg and maybe (for a long weekend), together with some fellow draughtsmen, the highly recommended Tropenmuseum of Amsterdam.

Recently I stuck my nose deep into the artwork of grandmaster Moebius aka Jean Giraud and began to modify my (often very graphically) drawing-style with a kind of moebiuslike hatchings...
