MILLPOND AGAIN

Some turbulences at these days because I'm looking for a new flat right now. A big, dirty and really noisy construction zone was established in the house where I'm living - it breaks me up! Now working at home becomes rather difficult for me because of all the dust and damage. But I also found some time for a new silkscreen-session - with the helpful support of Kathrin - to print the nice and proven image of an ancient steamboat, well known from my redesign of John Faheys "Millpond"-Ep record (do you remember our fine 45-A Single-Cover-Album?).

DE INVASIE

Hi,
Last month I participated to a Flemish designers fair named 'De Invasie'. It was the first time that the edition took place in Antwerp. I decided to show my two Mikrokosmos participations and the Hanami leporello we did. It was a great event. We had the old etnographic museum in Antwerp to show our works in nice vitrines. More than 10.000 visitors came to the fair. To have a total impression of the fair, watch these photo's on Facebook: http://goo.gl/mZ2fo or this youtube movies http://goo.gl/Ug6QN .
Cheers, Leen

SIDETRACK

I made a small comic story called Sidetrack about a place in Antwerp that fascinates me. It's not meant to be a real story or traditional comic. It's more about the atmosphere. Six pages have been published in Turkey Comix #21, an anthology of comics and illustrations published by a french collective The Hoochie Coochie. I met them in Angoulême at the comic festival in 2012. You can see the entire story at my website: http://www.leenvanhulst.be/Sidetrack

NEW ETCHINGS

These are some new etchings, I'm doing at the moment. I'm looking for a bit different topics and atmospheres than I used for my previous etchings. I'm also planning to make a kind of magazine with these new etchings combined with drawings etc... Hope to present it at the Frankfurt Bookfair in October.

Leen

SEA SONGS

These  first pictures full of deep blue are inspired by the "Sea song" of Robert Wyatt.
It is a blueness like the red sea or the mood of drunkenness and Jazz clubs in the early morning  hours.

The third motive shows a graphic with an interpretation of the overture of the opera "The Flying Dutchman" from Richard Wagner.
The mare-magazine has chosen for their column "sound of the sea" another graphic, which you can see on my blog.

MONOTYPING

HELLO.
I have just been to Munich for a week to visit my uncle,
who has a kind of guerillia-print-workshop in a little flat.
It was very nice to try on some MONOTYPES.
Above is one of the stereotypes.

 Charbonnel developed a waterbased printing-colour.
It`s quite cool to work with it on Monotypes,
because you don`t have to mess arround
with dissolver-stuff.
You can try this @ home :)

El Gouna Sketches

Hello dear Aerienners,
I would like to show you some sketchbooksketches I sketched in December in Egypt.
It`s a shame, but I have to admit that it was not so much a cultural, but more a sportive Kite-vacation. El Gouna, a strange, kind of solitary place on earth. Nevertheless it was great fun drawing...
And a Halleluja to our new year member Laurent!
I hope you are fine & Welcome to our magnificent drawing-Blog!!
All the best from    IB

PIXAR

The PIXAR Exhibition in Bonn was great! Lovely character design, sketches, storyboards, and a very spectecular ZOETROPE,
a three-dimensional animation with Toy-Story characters.

I'm impressed by the so-called colorscripts, color drafts in pastel, gouache, acrylics, that simulate diffent light-atmospheres for a setting.

I'd like to see it again, but it's already over.

Cheers, Boris

Monster Limericks

Hi there!

I just finished my diploma book Monster Limericks, and you
might have been able to check it out if you dropped by our booth
this past Frankfurt Book Fair.

This has easily been my biggest project to date, and it
took me ages to find the right tone and direction for it - the
actual drawing (and writing!) part pretty much happened
in the usual super-intense couple of weeks.

I portrayed 7 monsters on two double-pages each, along
with hand-drawn limericks. I really enjoyed writing those,
mostly because this form of poetry always had this really
interesting, crass and silly quality, which was a perfect
match for my little misfits!

The book is in german, but also contains rough english
translations in the back.

Check out more here:

You can also directly order them via

Enjoy!
