SEVEN REASONS NOT TO TRAVEL - II. Edition

We had the nice idea to reprint our first (and now sold out) silkscreen poster/accordion-book "Seven Reasons Not To Travel" in a second edition – together with our current silkscreen-project "Why Are We Sleeping?". Here are some fast snapshots from the printing.
 

We chose new, fresh colors...

… and worked again with our favorite silkscreen-printer Olli Nerlich (Berlin, Neukoelln).

WHY ARE WE SLEEPING?

 Out now is a new silkscreen accordion book by Poste Aérienne titled "Why Are We Sleeping?"

Thanks a lot to all participating Pilots of Poste Aérienne – Leen Van Hulst, Frederik Jurk, C.Pom, Adrian Wylezol, Cleo Schwinkowski, Ib Jorn, Boris Servais – and to our new Pilote d'Essai – Nadine Kolodziey.
 

This lovely three-color book (edited by Dieter Jüdt) is dedicated to the lunatic singer-songwriter Kevin Ayers.

 I've always liked this special existential melancholy in his music, his sense for harmonic nonsense and catchy refrains, his balancing between a friendly surrealism and sometimes dark expressionism. Not to forget his distorted bass guitar playing!

MONSTER BOX

"Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win."  This quote expresses quite well what this publication is about: experiencing our inner forces - the forces that are hard to deal with - like our fears, our arrogance, our aggressions, or even hatred.

If monsters live inside us, are they part of us?
And if they are, is there a way to fight them?
Or is there a way to turn their threatening company into a friendly, helpful presence?

This card set is first of all a graphic series: a humorous reflection of the many shapes that monsters have taken over thousands of years.  The publication contains a leaflet with a comment about the psychological aspect of meeting our monsters.
Printed on fine conqueror paper, this box can serve as a gift for friends of strange and individual illustration, or as a set of elegant postcards.

FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR

2013 the Frankfurt Book Fair was once again an extraordinary 

event for Poste Aérienne. We met many, many charming guests 

and visitors – magazine and book editors – friends of Art and 

Book Illustration all around.

We enjoyed the time in Frankfurt very much and it would be a

 pleasure to meet you again in 2014.

NADINE KOLODZIEY

Since a few months now, Poste Aérienne has a new "Pilote d'Essai" -

A young artist who joins us for single projects, discussions and art-related exchange.

Nadine Kolodziey (1988 GER) is a Berlin/ Offenbach based designer and illustrator. She studies visual communication at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main. Together with Eike König and the ASC team, she formed the graphic design festival After School Club. With Poste Aérienne, she's first present in our new silkscreen leporello "Why Are We Sleeping?". 

FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR 2013

From 9.-13. October Poste Aerienne will be once more part of the International Frankfurt Book Fair. For the (magical) seventh time! Besides our small press publications, fine books and prints we are especially happy to present:

- A brandnew silkscreen accordion book titled "Why Are We Sleeping?"
- The reprint of "Seven Reasons Not To Travel" - our first silkscreen book – in fresh new colors
- A new card-collection dedicated to some of the scariest creatures that ever walked on earth

SLEEP - SCHLAFT WEITER,...

Our new printed Silkscreen Accordian Book has the wonderful theme SLEEP, that reminds me to a unique book of mine, I presented at Frankfurt several years ago. In about two weeks POSTE AÉRIENNE will be present at the Frankfurt Book Fair for the seventh year.

BIRDTOD-SERIES

Within a two-month period a series of new graphics 

came into being, which could be realized 

as silkscreens in two colours black and gold.

 Recently I found some time to work again in my beloved papercut-technique. I worked with an older image (a drawing of native indian dancers wearing birdlike masks and costumes) and draw it again, now in a bigger size. Than copied it on various colored papers, cut it out and pasted it together into three different versions. 

The circle shape of these collages is inspired by photographies of the 19th century and relates particularly to the photography work of James Mooney.
 

This final image will appear in a forthcoming book, a new and extensive publication around the topic "Illustration", edited by fellow artist Felix Scheinberger.

MAYBE is an ongoing project that started in 2010 with five 

artists of our group. Each artist made twenty graphics as double 

cards. One portfolio is filled with a work of each artist. 

They are all showing surrealistic motives with an individual 

view and thought of the artist. Like a chain letter they 

are telling episodes of a fictional story. 

The created double cards are hand-signed and artistically

 further worked on with different techniques.

TANK STUDIES

We have drawn fictive vehicle sketches with my students this week in Cologne, inspired by the ones of Kim Jung Gi and Ian McQue. By drawing 'vehicles', you quickly get close to 'armed vehicles'.

Weaponry is a very problematic issue. Seeing the real impact that the armament industry has on many countries makes me feel disgust. But (or therefore) there can be reasons for an artist to face up this theme.

 The sketch above almost looks like an Army advertising, which is not my intention. Anyhow, tanks have a strong fascination to me. What is this fascination about? 

Just like Han Solo corresponds to the archetype of the Western cowboy, or maybe on a deeper level to the 'hunter', there's often something 'essential' in things or figures. There's so many odd versions of tanks - small, huge, powerful, more or less sophisticated and sometimes very absurd. Tempting me quite a lot to look for this essence.

MILLPOND AGAIN

Some turbulences at these days because I'm looking for a new flat right now. A big, dirty and really noisy construction zone was established in the house where I'm living - it breaks me up! Now working at home becomes rather difficult for me because of all the dust and damage. But I also found some time for a new silkscreen-session - with the helpful support of Kathrin - to print the nice and proven image of an ancient steamboat, well known from my redesign of John Faheys "Millpond"-Ep record (do you remember our fine 45-A Single-Cover-Album?).
